The Back to Nature Festival is held every year in Florida and gives everyone a chance to do just what the name suggests: get back in touch with nature! To kick off the annual festival head over to Bud & Alley’s on October 17th at 7:00 p.m. to register, enjoy food and drink, and meet the event leaders of this exciting activity all for free. The weekend will be filled with things like early sunrise watching in Grayton, bird watching in Baytowne’s wetland preserve, or exploring on a river safari and spotting alligators! The Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and the Pt. Washington State Forest will serve as venues to learn about forest ecology and how to track animals. The first day will finish off with a campfire, where you will enjoy hotdogs, roasted marshmallows, and drinks for free! If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to get out and explore the natural treasures of your own backyard, Bay Day is a great place to start. The bay, butterflies and birds take center stage on October 4th at the St. Joseph Bay Preserves Center on C-30. They will be hosting Bay Day with field trips for a suggested donation of $10.00 per person for boating and off-site birding trips. There will be trips of the Aquatic and Buffer Preserves as well as a birding tour of Cape San Blas. There will also be bear, butterfly and astronomy talks. So You Think You Can Dance is coming to the Pensacola Civic Center on Nov. 14th!
The summer hit SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, hosted by Cat Deeley, keeps viewers moving to a different beat as dancers skilled in everything from the ’street’ styles of Hip-Hop, Krumping and Popping to Ballroom’s Salsa, Quickstep and Jive compete to be named the nation’s favorite. Locals can now see their favorite stars perform live on stage in this fall’s highly anticipated tour which hits Pensacola on November 14th. The show will feature hit routines from the TV show as well as original pieces created just for the tour.

World champion surfer, Shaun Tomson will attend the showing of the award-winning documentary “Bustin’ Down the Door” in Panama City Beach on Monday, September 15th at 7:30 p.m. at The Grand 16 in Pier Park. The film, which was a hit at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, documents the rise of surfing as a professional sport during the benchmark era of the mid-70s in Hawaii’s North Shore. Tomson will introduce the film and lead a Q & A session. Fans attending the show will be able to get free posters personally autographed by Tomson. Tomson, who co-produced the film, is South Africa’s most successful surfer and one of six professional surfers whose careers form the framework for the film.

The Arts and Design Society (ADSO) of Ft. Walton Beach is hosting the Inspired by Matisse juried art show from August 28- September 13, 2008. Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French Artist, noted for his use of color and his fluid, brilliant and original draughtsmanship. Principally a painter, Matisse has emerged as one of the best-known artists of the 20th century and an integral figure in modern art. The exhibition showcases works of contemporary artists who have drawn creative inspiration from the works of Matisse.

Looking for something to do with your four-year-old? Destin Commons will kick off its new DC Kids Club “Read & Grow” program during National Book Month on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Geared towards kids ages 3-6 years old, the program will feature a different guest storyteller the first Thursday of every month along with a different book and activity. They plan for the time to be focused on learning and expression for the kids utilizing book reading, musical instruments and art activities and other fun ways to grow.
