Some of you may have already heard of Brian and Kathy Haugen’s loss of their son, Taylor. He was a 15-year old Niceville High School student who passed away on August 30, 2008. A sophomore wide receiver, he was injured in a collision with players from the Fort Walton Beach High School football team during the junior varsity half of the Eagles’ Kickoff Classic on August 29th. He died the following day from his injuries. His father said, “What made Taylor Haugen a truly exceptional person was his selflessness among his friends, his commitment to every activity he participated in and his devotion to Christ.†In memory of their son, Brian and Kathy have established The Taylor Haugen Foundation, a scholarship fund to be awarded annually to faith-based, outgoing, community-oriented, academically proficient athletes in the local community.

Couldn’t we all use some positive economic news right about now? We stumbled across this website called just that and liked their outlook on things so we thought we would share. Here are some excerpts from the site manager:
“I’ve grown tired of mainstream media looking for, finding, and feeding us primarily negative news about our economy. WE are our economy, and we’re better than that! We drive the economy with consumption, here and abroad. My feeling is that the more negative news we’re fed, the less likely we are to consume goods and services, resulting in layoffs, which in turn further reduces consumption! While it must be tempered with preparing for the worst, we must not get caught up in the “sky is falling” mentality, or it is my belief that we will fulfill our own prophesy of doom for our economy and our prosperity.

Breast cancer: two words that no one wants to hear.
Two words that affect so many people.
Two words that need an antonym: A CURE.
You can help.
In our lifetime, statistics show each of us will personally know at least one family member who will encounter a fight against breast cancer as one in eight women are diagnosed in the US. Perhaps you or someone you love has fought breast cancer. Imagine your daughter or mother having to fight this ravaging menace. Finding a cure now means our daughters and granddaughters can be spared from this unforgiving disease.
We want to let you all know that The L2 Gallery in Seaside, FL is hosting the PINK Ribbon Show: Art for A Cure and they will be holding a silent auction tonight October 3, 2008! Comprised of fourteen adjacent communities on twenty six miles of Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast, this upscale and unique area is a favorite fall destination. Autumn Tides events showcase the area’s culinary, cultural, historic and natural amenities that make Beaches of South Walton unique. Fall is a quieter, more sophisticated season in Beaches of South Walton. Cooler temperatures, warm water, fewer children, shorter lines, and the natural beauty of the season provide a greater sense of tranquility than is typically experienced during the spring and summer months. The fall is also complemented by Autumn Tides, an unforgettable season of fall events. In addition to enjoying popular celebrations, such as the Flutterby Festival, celebrating the colorful migration of the Monarch butterfly through the region, visitors will enjoy spectacular fall sunsets, comfortable temperatures and exceptional seasonal rates.
